Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told in the press conference that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the case of alleged Pakistan link related to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has submitted its report. According to Sarma, the Cabinet was of the opinion that the points revealed in the investigation are serious and go beyond the limits of the state police. For this reason, it was decided to send the case to MHA for further action.
Government claims ‘this is not a personal matter’
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this matter is not limited to any one person. According to him, there are said to be three important characters in this case, one is the sitting MP, the second is his British citizen wife and the third is Pakistani citizen Ali Tauqeer Sheikh. Sarma says that the alleged relations between these three have been investigated.
What allegations were made against Gaurav Gogoi?
The Chief Minister alleged that Gorav Gogoi had already gone to Pakistan. He met the then Pakistan High Commissioner at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi. Information about this visit was not given to the central government. He was also not active on social media during his visit to Pakistan. However, these are all allegations on which the final decision will be taken only after investigation.

Sarma also claimed that Gaurav Gogoi’s wife had worked in Pakistan between 2011 and 2012. According to the Chief Minister, the SIT report states that he had contact with some institutions of Pakistan and worked professionally with Pakistani citizen Ali Tauqeer Sheikh. Sarma also alleges that after the investigation started, some posts were removed from social media.
We did not interrogate the MP- CM
The Chief Minister clearly said that the state government did not interrogate sitting MP Gorav Gogoi. He said that, if strict action had been taken at this stage, he could have been accused of doing politics before the elections. For this reason it was decided to hand over the entire matter to the Centre.

Gaurav Gogoi has already termed these allegations as baseless, absurd and baseless. He has accused the Chief Minister of making allegations without any evidence. However, there is no new reaction from the Congress MP on the latest decision of handing over the case to MHA.
