The ritual of alliance of bride and groom is such that without it the marriage is not considered complete.

Alliance means joining a sacred relationship between two people. The alliance ceremony is completed by tying the bride’s chunri and the groom’s patka firmly with the help of a dupatta. This knot represents love, trust and a promise to live together, hence it is believed that this knot of the bride and groom should never be untied. No person ever performs this ritual of alliance.

The groom’s sister performs the ceremony

This ritual of marriage of bride and groom is always performed by the sister of the groom. This alliance is made with the groom’s sister because the groom’s sister accepts her sister-in-law in her family with love and respect. Marriage is not between two people but two families, the alliance made by the groom’s sister shows this. Usually the bride and groom are matched with yellow or pink dupatta.

Yellow and pink colors are considered very auspicious. They are considered symbols of good luck and auspiciousness, hence they are used in sacred rituals like marriage. This ritual is a symbol of strengthening the relationship between husband and wife. Alliance means respecting each other, maintaining trust and supporting each other in every situation and running the relationship with truth and purity.
