4 main gates of Yamalok
East gate of Yamalok: According to Garuda Purana, the east gate of Yamalok is very attractive. Gemstones like diamonds, pearls, sapphires and topaz are studded in it. This is called the door of heaven. After death, the souls of Yogis, Rishis, Siddhas and enlightened people enter through this door. After entering through this gate, the souls are welcomed by Gandharvas, Devas and Apsaras.
West Gate of Yamalok: The western gate of Yamalok is also studded with gems. Through this door, the souls of people who do good deeds in life like charity and following religion are given entry.
North gate of Yamalok: Through the north gate of Yamalok, the souls of those who serve their parents, always speak the truth, do non-violent deeds, help the needy and follow the path of religion are given entry. The north door is also studded with different gold gems.
South gate of Yamalok: The south gate of Yamalok is considered the most terrifying. This is the door from where sinful souls are allowed entry. The souls of those who do not follow religious rituals and rules and commit injustice in their lives have to pass through this door. This is extremely painful. This has been called the gate to hell. Not only this, after entering this gate the souls suffer for 100 years.
