It may be a new season, but it’s the same old story for Garrett Wilson. The New York Jets wide receiver lost his cool and screamed in anger at his quarterback while trailing the winless Miami Dolphins.
The Jets started as favorites against the Dolphins but fell behind early on. By halftime, the Dolphins led by 14. Quarterback Geno Smith led a charge, bringing the Jets closer to Miami’s total.
Wilson barely played a role in it all. He didn’t catch a single pass in the first half and had just two after the break. Even though the Jets looked better in the second half, Wilson’s frustration boiled over, and he was seen screaming at Smith in the dugout.
Mason Taylor’s second touchdown brought the Jets within five points of the Dolphins. The two-point conversion reduced the gap to just three. However, Miami hung on to secure a first win under Jeff Hafley.
After the game, reporters asked Wilson about the heated exchange with Smith. The Pro Bowl wideout admitted that he was frustrated, but his anger was directed at the veteran signal caller.
‘We were collaborating. I don’t even think I was talking to Geno. I think we were both heated, but not at each other at all,’ Garrett Wilson said via SNY Media.
Geno Smith seconded it when he was asked about it. ‘I don’t remember that. He might have been yelling, but I don’t think he was yelling at me,’ the veteran said.
Wilson’s frustration is justified. He’s the best receiver on the Jets roster—has been for quite some time. He makes the offense tick.
Gang Green fans will remember that Wilson had a minor falling out with Aaron Rodgers back in 2024 because he wasn’t seeing the ball much. Then again, he still racked up 101 catches, 1104 yards, and 7 touchdowns—his best numbers.
The Jets gave him a four-year, $130 million contract extension last year. But knee injuries limited Wilson to just seven games. So, he wants to make the 2026 season count.
The receiver crossed 100 yards twice—Week 3 and Week 5—and has racked up 37 receptions, 444 yards, and 3 touchdowns in seven appearances.
While Wilson struggled to get going on Sunday, rookie Omar Cooper Jr had career day. The Indiana alum recorded his second 100-yard game of his rookie year. He caught 5 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown.
Taylor caught 5 passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Braelon Allen rushed 17 times for 104 yards.
The Jets didn’t win a game until Week 7 in Aaron Glenn’s first season as head coach. One win turned into consecutive victories, but the Jets finished with just three Ws all year.
Glenn won his fourth game on opening weekend by taking down the Titans. It followed three straight losses. The streak ended with a win over the Browns. However, they have lost the last two games—both against divisional rivals.
The Jets fans are rightfully unhappy. They haven’t had a winning season since 2015. They last played in the playoffs in 2010. And the way the current season has gone, the Jets might miss out on January football again. Wilson acknowledged that the Jets fanbase has every right to be frustrated.
In the next four weeks, the Jets play three AFC West teams, starting with the 3-4 Las Vegas Raiders. On November 15, they have a big showdown against the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium.
