Ganga bathing rules: River Ganga is very revered in Hindu religion. In Hindu religion, Ganga is worshiped as Mother. It is believed that bathing in Ganga frees one from sins. Rules for bathing in Ganga have also been explained. Spiritual guru Devkinandan Thakur has said that the virtue of bathing in Ganga is achieved only by bathing with correct rules. Any mistake or mistake committed while bathing in Ganga makes a person guilty of sin.

Rules of bathing in Ganga

Devki Nandan Thakur ji told that before setting foot in the Ganga, one should worship the Mother Goddess. Then one should introspect and take a resolution. After this one should step into the holy river. One should not rinse in Ganga. Not only this, one should not wash clothes in Ganga by mistake. It is said in the scriptures that a person who rinses his mouth in the river Ganga becomes guilty of sin. Those who defecate on the banks of Ganga become guilty of the sin of killing a brahmin.

According to Devaki Nandan Thakur, before bathing in Ganga, one should also take bath at home. One should not wipe one’s body with a towel after bathing in Ganga. One who does this, his virtue of bathing in Ganga is lost. One should remain on the banks of Ganga until the water in the body dries up. One should definitely do bhajan after bathing in Ganga.

One gets the results of Rajasuya and Ashvamedha Yagya.

One should not go towards river Ganga wearing slippers. By growing barefoot, one gets the results of Rajasuya Yagya and Ashwamedha Yagya. One should never go by vehicle on the banks of river Ganga. The vehicle should be stopped some distance before Ganga Tak. Then one should walk barefoot to the shore. By following all these rules, one gets the full virtue of bathing in Ganga.
