Gang was selling ‘death’ in cough syrup! UP Police arrested mastermind’s father

Codeine cough syrup syndicate has been exposed in a big way. Mastermind Shubham Jaiswal’s father was arrested from Kolkata Airport. Police have claimed his important role in the smuggling network. The investigation of the entire gang has been intensified.

The illegal trade running in the name of cough syrup in India, worth crores of rupees, has not only spread panic in many states but has also challenged the law and order. After the deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, when the links of codeine cough syrup syndicate were connected to Sonbhadra, then the revelation of a big network started. In this series, Sonbhadra Police has now achieved another big success. Bhola Prasad, father of the syndicate’s main accused Shubham Jaiswal, was caught by the police from Kolkata airport just before he fled to Thailand.

Attempt to escape to Thailand failed, police took swift action

According to sources, Sonbhadra Police had received confidential information that Bhola Prasad was planning to leave India and flee abroad. As soon as the location was traced, a police team reached Kolkata and arrested Bhola Prasad at the airport when he was about to board a flight to Thailand shortly. Police said that the accused will be brought to UP and thoroughly interrogated.

Questions raised on father’s role in codeine cough syrup syndicate

Shubham Jaiswal is still absconding, but investigation has revealed that the Jharkhand registered company ‘Shaili Traders’, which is being used in smuggling of codeine cough syrup, is in the name of Bhola Prasad. The network of illegal transportation and supply of lakhs of vials was being run through this company. This arrest is also considered important because the father’s involvement has thrown new light on the pattern of the entire syndicate.

Fake transaction worth Rs 25 crore exposed

An FIR has already been registered against three people including Bhola Prasad in the case of smuggling of 7 lakh 53 thousand vials of cough syrup in Robertsganj Kotwali of Sonbhadra. As the investigation progressed, fraudulent transactions totaling about Rs 25 crore have been revealed in Bhadohi, Chandauli, Varanasi and Sonbhadra. In this case, the police have so far arrested Amit Tata, while the search for mastermind Shubham Jaiswal has been intensified.

Police hope more wires of the network will be opened

The arrest of Bhola Prasad is being considered as a big blow to the syndicate. Police believe that during interrogation, many more names, supply chains and financiers may come to light, which will help in rooting out this illegal cough syrup business.
