Ganadhipa Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat Katha
According to the legend, there was a great king named Dasharatha in Ayodhya. He loved hunting. Once during hunting, a Brahmin named Shravan Kumar died at his hands. The blind parents of that Brahmin cursed the king. Shravan Kumar’s parents cursed King Dashrath and said that just as they were dying in grief for their son, similarly they (King Dashrath) would also die in grief for their son.
This worried the king a lot. He performed Putreshti Yagya. As a result Lord Ram took incarnation. After some time he got married to Mother Sita. Kaikeyi demanded from King Dasharatha the throne for her son Bharat and 14 years of exile for Lord Rama. King Dasharatha sent Lord Rama into exile with a very sad heart.
Taking permission from their father, Lord Ram, Mother Sita and Lakshman all three left for exile, where they killed many demons and demonesses like Khar-Dushan etc. Angered by this, Ravana kidnapped Sita ji. In search of Sita ji, Lord Ram left Panchvati and while searching for her, reached Rishyamuk mountain, where he befriended Sugriv.
After this, Hanuman ji and the monkeys set out to search for Sita ji. While searching for Sita ji, the monkeys noticed the vulture king Sampati. After this, when Sampati asked, Jamwant told him the entire story of Ram. He was also informed about the death of his brother Jatayu. After this Sampati told that Ravana, the king of Lanka, has abducted Mother Sita and taken her to Lanka. Lanka is a demon city on the other side of the ocean. Sita ji is sitting there under the Ashoka tree.
Sampati told that I can see Sita ji. Hanuman ji is the most powerful among all the monkeys. Only Hanuman ji has the ability to cross the ocean. After listening to Sampati, Hanuman ji asked, O Sampati! How can I cross this vast ocean? Then Sampati told Hanuman ji to observe fast on Ganesh Chaturthi which is the destroyer of troubles. With the effect of that fast, you will cross the ocean in a moment. After the advice of Sampati, Hanuman ji observed the fast of Sankat Chaturthi. Due to its effect, Hanuman ji crossed the ocean in a moment.
