delivery boys
If you order goods or food online then you need to be careful on 31st December. This is because the delivery boys have announced a strike on 31st December i.e. a day before the New Year. There are two aspects behind this strike. On one side there is the pain of the delivery boys and on the other side there is the ‘silver’ of the companies.
You might often say that there is no milk at home, order it online, it will take only 10 minutes. There is no ration at home, order it online and it will arrive in 10 minutes. If you want to eat or drink something, order it online, you will get it within 8 minutes. Forgot to take the luggage while returning home. No problem, will order it online. It’s just a matter of 10 minutes. Or if you want to have a party at home, then you think that you will get the things online in 10 minutes.
Delivery of goods may be affected in 10 minutes
One such occasion is coming on 31st December i.e. just a day before the New Year when people hold parties and order celebration items. You order food but it is possible that your wish of getting the goods within 10 minutes on 31st December may not be fulfilled and the reason for this is the anger of the gig workers which also includes the delivery boys of Quick E-Commerce Company.
Gig workers are people who work under a contract or free lance instead of a permanent job. There are also those people who do online delivery for quick e-commerce companies but they have announced a strike on 31st December. According to reports, delivery boys of Zepto, Blinkit, Flipkart and other platforms are also involved in this strike. There is resentment among these gig workers regarding wages, security and poor working conditions.
Strike was also held on 25th December, now announced on 31st December
That is why it is believed that this strike is going to have a big impact on e-commerce and food delivery services. However, the gig workers had also done this strike on 25th December and now they have chosen the date of 31st December. This means that it is going to be the peak day of online orders.
However, today it is important to understand this 10-minute pain of gig workers and delivery boys. Because any item reaches your home in 8 or 10 minutes. It may be that he remains outside the house for 20 minutes, but he may not even realize how heavy those 10 minutes are for a delivery boy to deliver the goods.
Delivery boys have demanded to stop this ultra-fast model like 10-minute delivery. The workers argue that their lives are being put at stake for the convenience of customers for a few minutes. Their demand is to guarantee income equal to the minimum wage.
- There should be a system that works for 8 hours a day, but overtime payment should be made for more work.
- Transparent payment arrangements should be made according to hard work and hours and not at the mercy of algorithms.
- Apart from this, insurance and social security should be provided against accident and illness.
- Delivery should be stopped after 11 pm during fog as there is a risk to their lives.
- On one complaint or feedback from the customer, their ID is blocked, this should not happen without hearing.
The delivery boys are going to go on a big strike on 31st December regarding these demands. Today we will also tell you how on one hand gig workers are facing problems and on the other hand, Quick is the ‘silver’ of e-commerce companies.
According to delivery boys, they work 15-15 hours a day but the companies make huge profits. They take the risk of delivering the goods in 10 minutes, but the real benefit lies with the companies. Many times they have to listen to the scolding of the customers, but on one complaint of the customer, the action is taken against the delivery boys. It means hard work of gig workers and delivery boys but terms and conditions of the companies. The pain of those who deliver goods within 10 minutes is that they risk their lives in the process of delivery, but the focus of the companies remains on the blood-sucking profit policy.
Many times become victims of accidents
According to a report of the year 2024, in Cyberabad police area alone, 8 delivery boys were killed and 28 were seriously injured in the early months of 2024. A few days ago, our colleague Gaurav Aggarwal also knew about the pain of delivery boys. We show you a flashback reel of that too.
Have you ever thought about when a delivery boy knocks on the door of your house after ordering the goods? There was this much order, this much delivery charge was imposed, GST was also paid, but what did the delivery boy get in this?
600 rupees for 15-15 hours of work
Some delivery boys get only Rs 600 a day even after working for 15 hours. Some told that on one kilometer ride one gets Rs 10 to 15 in their account. Many times this amount is increased or decreased, but whether the goods are worth Rs 50 or Rs 500, the delivery boy gets paid according to the kilometre. These rates are different for different companies.
Some time ago, Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha had also raised this plight of gig workers and delivery boys in the Parliament. He had also invited a delivery boy to his residence for lunch and listened to his plight, the video and picture of which was also revealed.
When and where was the 10 minute delivery model started?
Well, today when research was done on this 8 minute and 10 minute model, it was found that it was first started in America. In 1998, some companies in America started delivering movies, snacks and groceries within 1 hour, however, due to poor logistics and high costs, those companies closed down.
When people were confined to their homes during the Covid-19 pandemic, many companies in Europe and America revived the 10-15 minute delivery model. It had already arrived in India too, but here this model started like a war around 2021 and then there was a race to deliver the goods at the risk of life.
How goods are delivered in 10 minutes
Well, have you ever thought? How does an item reach you within 8-10 minutes of ordering? This is not magic, but due to dark stores. These are those small warehouses. Which are built within a radius of 2-3 kilometers of any residential area. When you order, the goods do not come out of the main big warehouse, but from this small dark store nearest to your house and reach you, but how heavy will this race of 10 minutes of life be on the life of the delivery boys?
