Gachibowli-Kondapur flyover lands in controversy a day before opening

Hyderabad: The six lane bi-directional Shilpa Layout flyover phase-2 from Gachibowli-Kondapur named after late former minister P Janardhan Reddy (PJR), will be inaugurated by CM Revanth Reddy on June 28, 2025.

The length of the flyover is 1.29 km and arches over two existing flyovers and is set to be the city’s first third-level flyover and will provide smoother commute for thousands of people.

Even as the opening day approaches, some road safety concerns have been raised, particularly due to the installation of rumble strips along the curves and sharp turns. Additionally, the actions contradict previous GHMC promises to remove the ‘unscientific’ and poorly designed speed breakers.

The flyover, which is expected to ease traffic congestion, may end up making the commute risky for ordinary people due to the presence of the rumble strips. Commuters worry that they may do more harm than good.

“Design of the flyover doesn’t reflect concern for commuter safety. Rumble strips trap rainwater between layers, increasing the risk of skidding,” SP Anchuri, Infrastructure consultant and chairman of FOCUS was quoted by Deccan Chronicle as saying.
