India is gearing up to further strengthen its Air Force. It is reported that India is now preparing to buy the fifth generation super advanced fighter jet. Defense Secretary R.K. Singh made a clear gesture on Saturday, 5 July. He said that India is seriously considering buying such high-tech jets from its friend countries. This news is also special because Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to visit India soon. In such a situation, the question arises that which country will choose a jet and what will be the deal?
Why does India want a new fighter jet?
India is currently working on a strategy to make its Air Force more powerful. Especially in view of the increasing aerial strength of neighboring countries, China and Pakistan, India immediately needs a strong weapon. India is making its desi fifth generation fighter fighter jet AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft), but it may take 8-10 years to get ready and join the Air Force. Till then India needs an interim solution, which maintains its aerial strength. The Defense Secretary clearly stated that buying a fifth generation fighter jet would be a strategic step, which will take India’s strength to new heights.
America’s F-35 or Russia’s SU-57, Who will become India’s favorite?
The Defense Secretary may not take the name of any country, but if the news is to be believed, America has offered its f-35 fighter jet to India, while Russia has proposed SU-57 Stealth Jet. Russia’s SU-57 is a twin-engine, multi-roll stealth jet, equipped with supersonic speed, high-tech avionics and electronic warfare. Russia considers it one of the most advanced jets in the world. India has shown interest in this jet before, but due to some technical problems and partnership issues, the matter could not move forward. On the other hand, America’s F-35 is also famous for stealth technology and state-of-the-art features. Now the question in front of India is that which of these two will choose from?
Putin’s visit to India in September
Russian President Vladimir Putin will come to attend the Indo-Russia Summit to be held in New Delhi in September 2025. There is a hopes of big talks about defense deals on this tour. Russia has made a special offer to India with SU-57. Russia has said that if India buys SU-57, it will not only transfer technology of this jet, but will also share its source code. Not only this, Russia has also promised technical help in India’s AMCA program. Also, the production of jet in India has also been proposed under Make in India. Defense experts say that if Russia shows flexibility in this deal, then SU-57 can prove to be a game-changer for India.
Choosing fighter jet is not just the issue of technology
According to defense experts, choosing a fifth generation fighter jet for India is not just a matter of technology. It is also a strategic and geopolitical decision. India has old and reliable defense relations with Russia, while defense partnership with the US has increased rapidly in recent years. In such a situation, India will have to take a thoughtful decision that with which country it should carry forward this deal. The decision to choose one of SU-57 and F-35 will affect India’s foreign policy and defense strategy for a long time.
However, it is not clear whether India will choose SU-57 or F-35. Both the Ministry of Defense and the Air Force officials are studying the features, price and strategic benefits of both jets. Experts say that until AMCA is ready, India needs a jet that not only increase its aerial strength, but also supports the desi AMCA program. After Putin’s visit, there can be a big announcement in this direction.
