Semiconductor Workforce Development session on the theme ‘From Vision to Velocity’ was held at Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference, Mehsana. The program emphasized on education-industry collaboration, talent development and Gujarat’s role as a global semiconductor hub.

Gandhinagar. An important Semiconductor Workforce Development session was successfully organized at Vibrant Gujarat Regional Council (VGRC), Mehsana on Thursday. On this occasion, Gujarat launched the theme “From Vision to Velocity” to accelerate its semiconductor workforce. The event proved to be a major step towards giving impetus to the growing semiconductor sector in the state.

Coordination between industry and education remained at the center

The main objective of this session was to empower the semiconductor talent of Gujarat and strengthen the coordination between industry and academia. The program was organized at Ganpat University, Mehsana (North Gujarat). The theme of this special session organized on the first day was – ‘From vision to velocity, workforce development for semiconductor chips’.

In the session, strategic discussions were held on promoting Gujarat’s semiconductor industry and strengthening the talent ecosystem of the state. The event was a symbol of Gujarat’s commitment to establish itself as a global semiconductor, manufacturing and design hub.

Presence and discussions of leading experts

Many prominent personalities participated in this session. CEO of Grit, Smt. S. Highlighting the leading role of Gujarat, Aparna said that there is a need to further strengthen the education system to take the state forward in the semiconductor sector. In the main program, Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting and Electronics and Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnav stressed the need for skilled talent for the semiconductor sector in the country.

Apart from this, Mrs. P. Bharti, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Mrs. Neha Kumari, Director of Gujarat State Electronics Mission, Mr. Manish Hooda, Director of Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and Vice Chancellor of Gatishakti University, Prof. Dr. Manoj Chaudhary also shared his views and presentation.

Panel discussion on ‘Building Gujarat’s Semiconductor Talent Pipeline’

Two panel discussions were organized with the aim of strengthening coordination between industry and academia.

The first panel: ‘Building Gujarat’s Semiconductor Talent Pipeline’ was moderated by Mr. Nilesh Ranpura, Director (ASIC), eInfochips.

The discussion saw experts from various institutes and companies share views on topics such as strengthening the semiconductor talent ecosystem, filling the skill gap, curriculum modernization, and meeting industry expectations.

MoU signing and new partnerships

In this important session, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, Prof. Rajat Moona signed several MoUs after his address. These agreements included partnerships with IIT Gandhinagar, Digantara, Gatishakti University, and banks for the Gujarat government’s Samarth project. A new partnership was also announced between Monk9 and Nirma University for workforce development.

Emphasis on education-industry cooperation in ‘Collaboration for Innovation’ session

The second session “Collaboration for Innovation” was moderated by Dr. Anurag Kandya (Associate Professor, PDEU). The discussion covered wide-ranging topics like effective collaboration between academia and industry, joint research, international partnerships, advanced packaging skills, and fab workforce development.

The interactive question-and-answer session was attended by Matsuo-san (GICA), Marmik Bhatt (CEO, Monk9), Mr. Montu Makadia (Senior Advisor, Safal), Dr. Wasiuddin (R&D Head, CANNES), Sheetal Mehta (Director, Sudhi Semicon) and Prof. Amitabh Jain (Practice Professor, TEPL) participated.
