From the first day of Navratri, these 33 important medicines will not be charged now, this is the entire list

There will be no GST on these life saving medicines

The government has taken a big decision in the field of health. In the GST Council meeting held on 3 September 2025, the GST on 33 such drugs has been abolished, which is especially used in the treatment of cancer, blood disorder and other serious diseases. Earlier, 12 percent GST was used on these medicines, which has now been completely removed to 0 percent. This means that patients will no longer have to pay tax on the purchase of these expensive medicines. This will reduce the price of treatment and provide financial help to sick patients and their families.

When will this rule come into force?

The government has made it clear that this new system will be implemented in the entire country from 22 September 2025. That is, patients will be able to buy these medicines without GST before Navratri. Earlier, due to tax, the prices of medicines increased, now those medicines will be cheaper. This change will especially benefit those families who could not afford expensive treatment.

Big change in GST slab too, now only two tax rates

The GST Council has also simplified the tax slabs of GST along with the removal of tax on medicines. Now there will be only two tax slabs in the country – 5% and 18%. Earlier there were 4 types of slabs, causing both tax calculation and payment to become complicated. Under the new rules, tax on everyday things like soap, bicycle, TV and health and life insurance has also been reduced. However, tax on tobacco, gutkha and cigarettes has been reduced to 40%.

According to Revenue Secretary Arvind Srivastava, the change in tax slab will have an impact of about Rs 48,000 crore, but it will not have much impact on the financial situation of the government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also insisted on making the tax system easier on Independence Day, which is now being completed.

Relief for common people

This decision of the government is being considered a major relief in the health sector. Treatment will be cheaper due to the end of GST on expensive and essential medicines. Also, those doing business will also benefit from tax slab. These new rules, which come into force from 22 September, are a new ray of hope for the common man, which will reduce the financial burden especially for families struggling with serious diseases.
