AIIMS, along with IIT Delhi, has achieved success in new options about Carnia. Dr. Radhika Tandon, Chief of Rajendra Prasad Center of AIIMS, told the TV 9 in a special talk from Bharatvarsha that the Center has recently discovered the options of human donor cornea, including bio-shed cornea and newly designed corniate keratoprosthesis. Additionally, cooperative work is going on with IIT Delhi for the development of bio-condensation cornea implants. Through these initiatives, RP The center is playing a leading role in developing alternative solutions to reduce dependence on human donor cornea.

Dr. Radhika said that in the research so far, there has been a lot of success in this field. He said that the RP Center of AIIMS is also working very fast towards making synthetic eye.

How much is the need of Carnia

The cornea is needed when the cornea is damaged or deformed. Along with this, there is no improvement with glasses or contact lenses, or when there is pain due to severe infection, then there is a need to change the cornea. The cornea helps to see by focusing light and keeps it safe as the outer layer of the eye.

How to transplant corn

The cornea transplant is a surgical process in which the damaged cornea (transparent outer part of the eye) is replaced by a healthy donor cornea. In this, the diseased cornea is removed and the donor cornea is fitted with extremely thin stitches or air bubbles instead. Sometimes it happens that some corneas get spoiled during transplant. AIIMS has started the process of repairing these cornea through bioanning and re -applying it to the patient. For which the help of IIT Delhi is being taken.

Why is Carnia needed in India?

Carnia is very high every year in India. According to one figure, India needs about 250,000 cornea every year. With this, only 50,000 are available. Because of this, 50,000 new cases of blindness are being added every year due to cornea blindness in India. To cure this problem, more than 2 lakh cornea transplants are required every year. To bridge this big difference, increase awareness of eye donation and synthetic eye is required.
