Cervical cancer screening in AIIMS
Cervical cancer is becoming a big threat in India. According to AIIMS Delhi, one woman dies every 8 minutes after suffering from this cancer. Whereas this disease can be easily controlled with timely testing and vaccination. To deal with this serious challenge, AIIMS New Delhi has started free cervical cancer screening for women. Through this, women can come to AIIMS and get tested for cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer occurs in the cervix of women. It spreads due to human papilloma virus (HPV) infection. This infection occurs during sexual intercourse. Usually its symptoms are not visible in the beginning. Even if it is visible in some cases, women ignore it. This is the reason why many patients approach the doctor in the last stage of the disease, which makes treatment difficult.
Initiative Program of AIIMS
AIIMS New Delhi has started the initiative of free cervical and breast cancer screening for the entire month of January, through this women can get their tests done for free. All these tests will be done as per WHO protocol. Along with testing, follow-up care and vaccination, if needed, is also available at AIIMS. In this, women between 30 to 65 years of age get the facility of testing from Monday to Friday. In this, women have to come and get themselves registered. After this the doctor will take the medical history of the woman and will test accordingly.
Why is it important to get tested
According to AIIMS, if cervical cancer is identified on time, this disease can be easily controlled. If Pap smear or HPV test is done early, the problems caused by cancer can be controlled.
How to get tested in AIIMS
There is IRCH Cancer Center inside AIIMS. In this, tests are conducted every day from 9 am to noon. HPV vaccine dose is also available free of cost
