Former Punjab minister Razia Sultana and former DGP Mohammad Mustafa accused in the mysterious death of their son Aqeel Akhtar. Shocking revelations of father-wife affair and family conspiracy in the video surfaced, SIT started investigation.
Chandigarh. The case that shook the politics and police world of Punjab has now turned into murder charges. Former minister Razia Sultana and her husband, former DGP Mohammad Mustafa, have been accused of involvement in the death of their son Aqeel Akhtar. Till a few days ago, this case was considered a “suspicious death”, but now the videos and social media posts that have surfaced have made the entire incident mysterious.
Death or conspiracy? Mystery story started from Panchkula
According to police, 33-year-old Aqeel Akhtar was found unconscious at his Panchkula residence late Thursday night. The family immediately rushed him to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead. In the initial statement, the family said that the death was due to drug overdose, while the police said it was a complication caused by the medicines. But the videos that surfaced a few days later forced even the police to think.

Son’s sensational allegation in video, “My wife and father are having an affair”
In a video recorded in August, Aqeel Akhtar had accused his father and wife of illicit relations. He said,
“I have found out that my father and my wife are having an affair. I am mentally and emotionally broken. I am afraid that these people will implicate me in a false case.”
Aqeel also claimed that his mother Razia Sultana and sister were also involved in the conspiracy. In the video he even said that his father knew his wife even before marriage and after marriage his wife did not allow him to come near her.
“I was labeled crazy, robbed of money, and forced to go to rehab.”
Aqeel said in his video that the family tried to prove him false by calling him a “mental patient”.
“Whenever I say anything concrete, their narrative changes. I was forced into rehab even though I was completely drug-free. If I was sick, they should have taken me to a doctor, not locked me up.”
She also alleged that the family took away her money and personal documents, so that she could not take any legal action.
Painful appeal in “Somebody save me” video
At the end of the video, Aqeel says emotionally,
“Somebody help me, somebody save me. I’m afraid these people will get me killed.” He even said that he has doubts about his daughter’s birth.
Second video increased the confusion – reversed statements and sudden cut
In the second video, Aqeel retracted his earlier statements and said that he had schizophrenia and that all the allegations he had made were due to the illness. “I was sick, unable to understand. My family is very good, thank Allah.” But as the camera returns to his face at the end of the video, he suddenly says, “Are these people going to get me killed? They are all bastards.” This sudden change in tone has made the matter more complicated for the police.
FIR registered, SIT formed, investigation now at a new turn
Panchkula DCP Srishti Gupta said that initially there was no suspicion of any kind of conspiracy. But after videos and pictures surfaced on social media, a case of murder has been registered. He told that the complaint was made by a person named Shamsuddin, who is close to the family. The police have now formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate this case, which will investigate the allegations against Mohammad Mustafa, Razia Sultana, Aqeel’s wife and sister.
Who are Razia Sultana and Mohammad Mustafa?
Razia Sultana is a former Congress MLA from Malerkotla and was a minister in the Punjab government from 2017 to 2022. Her husband Mohammad Mustafa is a former DGP of Punjab Police, who served in many important positions. Razia Sultana had lost the 2022 assembly elections, and was away from public life since then.
Now investigation will determine the truth, both politics and family are at stake.
This matter is no longer just a family dispute, but has political and legal implications. The police have handed over the responsibility of investigation to the SIT, and once again the discussion about power, conspiracy and truth has intensified in the politics of Punjab.
