The LPL confirmed the news by announcing Vijay’s signing, with a video welcoming the former Indian cricketer.

“You’ve seen him before in the heat of battle… but never like this. Different stage. Same calm fire. Now entering Kandy Royals,” wrote LPL in the caption.

On Friday, Vijay bid farewell to professional cricket with an emotional message on social media, expressing gratitude for his journey in the sport while signaling a fresh chapter ahead. The former India-all rounder said that he looks to explore new opportunities and continue staying connected to the game in different ways.

Notably, he finished his note with the phrase “Your 3D  Cricketer” accepting the nickname that once became a big talking point during his selection in India’s squad for the 2019 ODI WC, where his all-round skill set had sparked serious debate among experts.

“Cricket is my life. I started playing when I was 10, and 25 years later, I am grateful and blessed to have played at every level and to the highest level. Representing our country will always be one of my proudest and happiest moments,” Shankar said.
