Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is releasing tomorrow across the globe, but the buzz around the film is not as expected. Earlier, there was hope that it would become Tamil cinema’s first Rs. 1,000 crore grosser, but the bookings so far are lower than those for his last outing, Coolie.
Everyone knows how Coolie performed, but the buzz around the film was very high before its release. It sold around 2 million tickets before release, but Jailer 2 has not even reached half that number (based on BookMyShow sales).
Apart from Rajinikanth, Anirudh’s music and the success of the prequel are the positives. However, the sequel needs strong word of mouth to turn things around.
The global pre-sales are nearing Rs. 60 crore gross at the moment, and we need to see if word of mouth can help the film get bigger numbers. In Telugu, the buzz is not very encouraging.
Nelson Dilipkumar directed Jailer 2 for Sun Pictures. The movie features cameos by stars from different film industries. The actual talk will be out in less than 24 hours, and that will decide how the film performs at the box office.
