New Delhi: Winger Rio Ngumoha became Liverpool’s youngest player to score a Premier League goal at Anfield before Mohamed Salah netted just four minutes later in a 2-0 victory against Fulham on Saturday, April 11.
Ngumoha is also the team’s youngest scorer after netting against Newcastle United in August when he was 16. The 17-year-old created another record when he struck into the far corner in the 36th minute of the match.
Salah doubled the lead with a stunning first-time finish to the far corner in the 40th minute. The 33-year-old is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season after nine brilliant years at the club. After scoring, Salah tapped a hand to his Liverpool shirt crest with a wave to the crowd.
With five Champions League places up for grabs next season in the Premier League, Liverpool remained in fifth place with 52 points, just four ahead of sixth-placed Chelsea. The victory came after three successive losses to Brighton and Hove (Premier League), Manchester City (FA Cup quarterfinal), and PSG (Champions League quarterfinal).
Bayern Munich smash Bundesliga’s goal-scoring record
Bayern Munich defeated St. Pauli 5-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday to set an all-time season scoring record. The Bavarians also extended their lead at the top to 12 points with five games left in the league.
They will host Real Madrid next week in their Champions League quarter-final second leg after their 2-1 victory in Spain, and are also closing in on the league title with 76 points. Second-placed Borussia Dortmund are stuck on 64 after their 1-0 home defeat against Bayer Leverkusen.
Jamal Musiala scored the opening goal with a header in the ninth minute of the game to equal the Bundesliga’s record of 101 goals in a single season, which was also set by Bayern in the 1971-72 campaign.
Leon Goretzka scored in the 53rd, and Michael Olise also netted a minute later to beat the previous record. Nicholas Jackson scored the fourth goal before Raphael Guerreiro slotted in to make it 5-0.
Head coach Vincent Kompany rested several players ahead of their UCL quarterfinal clash against Real Madrid, including star striker Harry Kane. Bayern are still competing for three titles and will face Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal semi-final on April 22.
