‘Fooled us all, ended up marrying a Sangh affiliate’; Social media unleashes vicious comments to filmmaker Aisha Sultana’s marriage

KOCHI: It was just yesterday that Lakshadweep-based filmmaker Aisha Sultana announced her marriage to Harshit Saini, the son of R.K. Saini and Shikha Saini from Gurugram in Delhi.

Harshit, currently posted as a Deputy Collector in Delhi, and Aisha are said to have registered their marriage in Delhi on June 20.

The news of Aisha’s wedding went viral in Kerala, while a few took offence over the filmmaker not practising what she preached. Aisha had vociferously defended the rights of her people in Lakshadweep and was popular for her diatribes against the BJP government. She was also at the forefront when it came to espousing traditional Muslim values and had raised allegations against the BJP government or allegedly trying to distort and change the demography of the island, which has a 96.58 per cent Muslim population.

The news of Aisha marrying Harshit, a Hindu ended up infuriating a few. Many of her former legions in cyberspace couldn’t fathom Aisha’s deviation from the core values of the religion. Comments criticising Aisha for her ‘betrayal’ of religious values are popping up on social media.

Comments on social media:

  • Better not allow your future child from this relationship to make clarion calls like ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and take arms against Muslims.
  • She made a fool of her followers and ended up marrying a Sanghi.

Amidst this, there were also appreciation and congratulatory messages coming Aisha’s way for her major life decision. A wedding reception is planned for December, either in Lakshadweep or Kochi, following Aisha’s mother’s return from Umrah.

Aisha had previously drawn national attention after being charged with sedition over a controversial remark about biological weapons made during a TV debate. The case sparked widespread debate, but she was eventually acquitted of all charges.
