It seems that Indian rail travel has now reached a new phase, where the sounds of ‘chai-chai’ have now been replaced by ‘flight like service’. A video of the catering service of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is going viral on the internet. In the video, the train staff is seen passing through the coach with a covered service trolley and giving sealed food boxes to the passengers.
This is the first major change in the history of railways.
The staff are wearing gloves, masks and hairnets. This method looks quite organized and clean. Passengers say it is completely different from their previous train experiences. In the clip, a passenger is seen relaxing on her berth, using a bedsheet with a colorful and beautiful block-print design. This is a big change from the plain white sheets traditionally used in AC coaches.
Travel blogger Aditya Yadav tweeted this video and described the service as “flight-like”. He said that this thing immediately became popular online. Many people agreed with this. People said the way food was served and handled seemed more organized than what they had seen before in Indian trains.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the Vande Bharat Sleeper between Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya) on January 17. The aim of this train is to reduce the travel time by about 2.5 hours. Its design speed is 180 kmph and it has 16 coaches. This train can carry around 800 passengers in three-tier, two-tier and first-class AC categories. It also has safety features like ‘Kavach’ and emergency talk-back system.
