Five arrested after retired Colonel brutally assaulted, forced to transfer Rs 30,000 in Gurugram

Gurugram:  Five people have been arrested by Gurugram police following the alleged brutal assault and forced digital transfer of Rs 30,000 from a retired Army officer after a road accident. The shocking incident, which saw a senior citizen thrown to the ground and repeatedly kicked, unfolded near Vatika Chowk on Faridabad Road last Monday night.

According to police reports, retired Army Colonel Anil Yadav was en route to a wedding, travelling from Sector 5 to Sector 60 on February 21, when his car collided with another vehicle. What should have been a routine exchange of insurance details quickly escalated into a violent ordeal. As Colonel Yadav exited his vehicle to assess the damage, he was reportedly set upon by several men who emerged from the other car. They allegedly dragged him out of his own vehicle, viciously assaulting him by throwing him to the ground and delivering repeated kicks.

The attackers’ aggression didn’t stop there. Using beer bottles, they reportedly smashed the headlights and windows of Colonel Yadav’s car, causing significant damage. In a further terrifying turn, the accused then attempted to force the retired soldier into their vehicle. Their plan, however, was thwarted when their car failed to start. Adapting quickly, they allegedly demanded compensation for the damages and coerced Colonel Yadav into transferring Rs 30,000 to them via a Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transaction.

Following a written complaint filed at Gurugram’s Sector 50 Police Station, a case was promptly registered under relevant sections of the law. The swift police action led to the arrest of the five accused from Gurugram on February 23.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Pankaj (23) from Niganiawas in Rewari district, Vikas (21) from Bagthala in Rewari, Nikhil (21) from Masani in Rewari, Sahil (22) from Khedi Talwana in Mahendragarh district, and Ankit Kumar (22), also from Khedi Talwana in Mahendragarh.

Further details reveal that Pankaj, Sahil, and Ankit are employed at a Nippon company in Rewari, while Vikas is a second-year BA student and Nikhil is pursuing a BCom in his second year.
