New Delhi: After being away from action for past couple of months, India’s T20 specialist Suryakumar Yadav is fit again and has resumed training at the NCA, Bengaluru. This comes after the flamboyant batter underwent a sports hernia surgery in the month of June.
In what comes as a good news for the Indian cricket team, Suryakumar seems to be very much in line to lead India in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025. The continental tournament begins on September 9 in the UAE and India are set to face-off against the hosts on September 10. The batters rehabilitation process is being closely monitored by the NCA and he’s expected to be fit with more than a month remaining for the event to begin.
Suryakumar’s surgery in Munich
The ace T20 batter underwent his sports hernia surgery in the month of June and travelled to Munich to get it done. This was his third operation in three years. While this certainly cast a doubt on his participation in the upcoming international events but his presence at the NCA has raised hopes of the senior batter get fit in time to lead India at the Asia Cup.
As per multiple media reports, the 34-year-old is under strict supervision from the NCA’s medical and performance staff and is also showing signs of recovery. He was though omitted by the West Zone for Duleep Trophy due to his current rehabilitation process. The Mumbai batter has performed exceptionally well for India in the shortest format since quit some time.
In his last appearance on the field during the IPL 2025, he scored more than 700 runs for Mumbai Indians, which became the only silver lining for them in what was modest campaign. His comeback was expected in the month of August for the Bangladesh T20I series but with that being cancelled, he is expected to be fit in time for the Asia Cup.
