Lucknow. In a significant change in the administrative structure, the Uttar Pradesh government has appointed senior IAS officer Kamini Ratan Chauhan as the head of the Tax and GST department. This appointment has been made at a time when there was a long standing dispute between Chief Secretary M. Devaraj and the employees in the State Tax Department. In such a situation, this step of the government is being considered as giving a new direction to the system.
Who is IAS Kamini Ratan Chauhan?
Kamini Ratan Chauhan is a flamboyant IAS officer of 1997 batch. She has achieved the distinction of becoming the first woman District Magistrate of Meerut. Apart from this, she has also served as Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. For the last three years, she was working on deputation in the Central Government and immediately after her return, the Yogi government has handed her this important responsibility.

Husband was also an IPS officer of UP cadre
Kamini Ratan Chauhan’s husband Deepak Ratan was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He was a resident of Bhopal and was associated with UP cadre. He served as IG in Aligarh Range and received many honors including the President’s Gallantry Medal. However, he died due to a heart attack in August 2020. Deepak Ratan and Kamini Chauhan were from the same UPSC batch and both had a love marriage.
Strength gained from the struggle of family and life
The two have two children, twins Arshiya and Arnav. After the untimely death of her husband, Kamini Chauhan not only took the responsibility of her family but also continued her excellent work in administrative service. This is the reason why today he has been given the important role of strengthening the economic and tax structure of UP.
Tax administration in the state will get new direction
Government sources say that Kamini Ratan Chauhan is expected to bring transparency, better administration and increase in tax collection in the department. Yogi Adityanath government aims to strengthen the economy of the state through GST reforms and strict tax policy.
