US President Trump will demolish the eastern wing of the White House and build a new Presidential Ballroom, which was attacked during its repair in 1950.
To fulfill his hobby, US President Donald Trump is running a bulldozer on the Rashtrapati Bhavan i.e. White House in America. Trump himself has announced that he will demolish the eastern wing of the White House and build a new Presidential Ballroom. He has claimed that he will invest his own money on this entire project and will not spend the tax money of the American people. Even before this, once when the White House was being renovated, the US President was attacked. Then there was firing for 38 seconds. Let us know what is the story of the shooting related to the White House?
This is the year 1950. The President of America was Henry S Truman. During the winter, the White House was undergoing renovations and President Truman was living with his family at the nearby Blair House on Pennsylvania Avenue. On the afternoon of November 1, 1950, Truman and his wife were upstairs. Then they heard movement and the sound of firing on the front stairs of the house. Later it was revealed that two people named Griselio Torresola and Oscar Collazo had attacked the President. Both of them had reached the main gate of Blair House and started firing.
Why did the attack happen?
Due to the prompt processing of police officers and security guards, they were not able to cross the entrance stairs. In this incident, Secret Service agents were badly injured but they killed Torresola. Collazo later confessed to the police that they had planned in a very superficial manner. He didn’t even know whether the President would be there or not.
Former US President Henry S Truman.
Both Torresola and Collazo were political activists. He was associated with the radical Puerto Rican Nationalist Party. These people were fighting for complete independence from the United States. These people tried to target Truman, even though he himself was in support of Puerto Rican independence.
However, despite the attack that day, Truman completed all his day’s work. His only response was that a President should be prepared for such things. Oscar Collazo was later sentenced to death. However, on July 24, 1952, Truman commuted his sentence to life imprisonment.
There was firing in 2011 also
In the year 2011 also the White House was the victim of shooting. Then Barack Obama was the President of America. On November 11, 2011, Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, an unemployed 21-year-old man, opened fire indiscriminately with a semi-automatic rifle. At least seven of these bullets hit the second floor. However, neither President Barack Obama nor First Lady Michelle Obama were in Washington DC at that time.
The youngest daughter of the presidential couple and Mishek’s mother were definitely present in the White House. After this incident, Ortega-Hernandez accepted his sentence in September 2013. In March 2014, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
In the year 2011 also the White House was the victim of shooting.
George Washington had built
The construction of the White House was started by George Washington. After becoming President in 1791, he took the lead in establishing a new capital for the federal government. It was named Washington DC. Washington had the layout of the city made by French engineer Pierre Charles L’Enfant. The White House was designed by Irish architect James Hoban. Construction took place under the supervision of Washington himself and sandstone was used in it. However, later it was painted white, due to which it is called the White House. Well, officially its name was Executive Mansion. In the year 1901, President Theodore Roosevelt named it White House.
The construction of the White House began in the year 1792 and was completed in 1800. By then Washington’s tenure had ended. Not only this, Washington also died in the year 1799. The first President to live in it was John Adams and his wife Abigail Adams.
This is why Trump is rebuilding
President Donald Trump is now getting new construction done in it because he says that a ballroom will be built here, which will be used for government visits, meetings and other official programs. He claims that for more than 150 years, every President has dreamed of having a ballroom in the White House, which could accommodate people during grand parties and state visits etc. That’s why I’m launching this vitally important project at zero cost to American taxpayers, and I’m honored to be the first president to do so.
