When train number 14618 was going from Amritsar to Saharsa, a bogie of the train caught fire near Sonvarsha Kachari station. According to Vinod Bhatia, Divisional Railway Manager of Northern Railway, “When this train from Amritsar to Saharsa was passing through Sirhind station at around 7:30 in the morning, fire and smoke were seen. All the passengers have been safely rescued by separating the burnt coach. Only one passenger has suffered 30-40% burns.

The remaining train left for Saharsa after removing the burnt bogie.

After the fire was brought under control, every bogie of the train was thoroughly inspected. The burnt coach was separated from the train and the remaining bogies were sent to Saharsa. According to Railways, no passengers were injured in this accident. In the initial investigation, the cause of the fire is said to be short circuit, but the real reason will be revealed only after a thorough investigation. This incident, which happened just before Chhath Puja, has once again raised questions regarding the security arrangements in trains.
