Police have arrested 12 people in connection with the sexual assault of a minor in Chikkamagaluru. The girl’s father and grandmother had sent her with the main accused for money. A case has been registered against all under POCSO Act.
Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka): A total of 12 accused, including a father, grandmother and a man from Mangaluru, who helped in sexually assaulting his own daughter, have been arrested by the Birur police and a case has been registered under the POCSO Act. A total of 12 people, including Mangaluru resident Bharat Shetty, Girish (the girl’s father), and Nagarathnamma (the girl’s grandmother), have been arrested.
The girl, who lived with her father in Nagavangala near Birur, had come to her grandmother’s house near Antaraghattamma temple in Birur town. Grandmother Nagarathnamma asked the girl’s father Girish to send her daughter with accused Bharat Shetty to Mangaluru. After this, on December 20, Girish went to Mangaluru with his daughter and Bharat Shetty.
There was no use in telling my father.
In Mangaluru, the girl tearfully told her father that Bharat Shetty was trying to sexually exploit her, but to no avail. The helpless girl had to face sexual harassment at the hands of some people because of her own despicable father. After returning from Mangaluru, the girl lodged a complaint with the police. He has stated in the complaint that his family members took money from Bharat Shetty and used it for this heinous act.
Case registered under POCSO Act
After registering a case in this matter, the police conducted an operation under the leadership of DYSP Parashuram of Tarikere and under the guidance of CPI Srikanth. PSI Tippesh and Afridi, and crime branch staff D.V. Hemant Kumar, Krishnamurthy, Rajappa, B.H. Shivanand has arrested the people involved in this heinous act and registered a case under the POCSO Act. Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police has praised the team and announced a reward.
