Chhath Puja is a major festival of Hindu religion, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm especially in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Nepal. This festival is dedicated to the worship of Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. During Chhath Vrat, devotees observe waterless fast for about 36 hours, in which they abstain from food and water with full devotion and discipline. The fast starts with Nahay-Khay, in which pure and light food is eaten. After this comes Kharna, in which the fast is started by eating kheer and fruits. On the main days of the fast, evening and dawn arghya, at the time of sunset and sunrise one has to offer arghya to the Sun by standing in a river or pond. The purpose of this fast is to achieve health, prosperity and happiness and peace in the family.

Especially for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, sick women and those who have blood pressure or blood sugar problems, this fasting can be risky. Not taking food and water for a long time during waterless fasting can cause problems like weakness, dizziness, dehydration, fluctuations in blood pressure and weakness in the body. If anyone feels extreme weakness or dizziness, the fast should be broken immediately. At the time of offering Arghya to the Sun, before standing in the river or pond, relax the body and go into the water safely. It is also important to take adequate sleep during the fast so that the body remains energetic. If needed, the fast can be divided into smaller parts. Women should also be mentally prepared and pay attention to their health, so that along with achieving the purpose of the puja, the body also remains safe.
