Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has launched DigiYatra service in its terminal facility. This important step has been taken about two months after the commencement of commercial flights operations. Airport management says that with this facility, passengers will benefit from fast, safe and hassle-free entry process.
NMIA associated with nationwide DigiYatra campaign
In a statement issued by the private airport operator on Friday, it was said that Navi Mumbai International Airport has now officially joined the countrywide DigiYatra initiative of the Civil Aviation Ministry. Under this initiative, this facility has also been started simultaneously at five other airports in the country. DigiYatra aims to ease the movement of passengers at the airport and reduce long queues.
Remote opening and symbolic launch
DigiYatra facility was inaugurated remotely. Live streaming of this event was shown to the passengers present inside the airport terminal. To mark the occasion, three passengers symbolically used the DigiYatra e-gate and cut the ribbon at the biometric entry point to mark the beginning of the service.
Fast and safe travel with face recognition
According to the airport management, face recognition technology is used in DigiYatra. Passengers can register themselves in advance through the app, after which they do not need to show papers or present identity cards again and again at the airport. Camera based identification speeds up the entry and security checks process.
The management also clarified that full care has been taken of data privacy and security in this system. Passengers’ personal information is kept safe through strong cyber security measures. With the launch of DigiYatra, it is expected that in the coming times, passengers will get a more seamless and modern travel experience.
