Kallakurichi: A woman poured petrol on her drunken husband and burnt him alive in Kallakurichi near Salem, Tamil Nadu. The surprising thing is that he tried to make it look like suicide. But CCTV footage exposed him completely. Police investigation later revealed that it was a murder. The man who was killed by his wife has been identified as Antony Robin, a resident of Mamandal Road. He worked in a gas company in Chinnathirupathi area of Salem. The name of his murdered wife is Ammu.
Horrible incident captured in CCTV
Initially, wife Ammu told the police that her husband Antony Robin, under the influence of alcohol, poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire. But when the police examined the CCTV footage in the street outside the house, the truth came to light. It is clearly visible in the footage that Ammu is setting her husband on fire with a lighter. After the fire, Robin was admitted to the government hospital in Salem by the neighbors. He suffered 90% burns and died during treatment.
The CCTV footage of this incident on Sunday morning is heart-wrenching. It is seen that after the fire, Antony is running on the road screaming. At first his wife Ammu claimed that Antony committed suicide by pouring petrol under the influence of alcohol. Later, neighbors took him to the government hospital in Kallakurichi, from where he was referred to Salem hospital for better treatment.
When the police started investigating the case and scanned the surrounding CCTV footage, the case took a new turn. What was seen in the CCTV was completely different from Ammu’s statement. In the video, Antony comes out of the house and tries to wipe off the petrol on his body. Then his wife Ammu comes from behind and deliberately sets him on fire with a lighter.
Mother of three children had an affair with brother-in-law
Antony and Ammu were married for many years and have three children (two sons and a daughter). Initial police investigation revealed that the reason behind the murder was illicit relations. Antony had come to know that his wife Ammu was having an affair with her sister’s husband (brother-in-law). He had warned Ammu many times to end this relationship. The two often quarreled over this issue.
Police said that Antony was under the influence of alcohol on Saturday night. Taking advantage of this, Ammu poured petrol on him inside the house. When he ran outside to clean himself, Ammu chased him and set him on fire. Kallakurichi police have registered a case in this matter and arrested the accused wife Ammu.
