Mumbai: Balwinder Singh, the artist who tied Ranveer Singh’s turban in Dhurandhar, spoke of how he was chosen to do the task. He also confirmed Ranveer did not disrespect the Sikh way of life by smoking or doing anything frowned upon in the key aspects of Sikhism.
Speaking to News9, the turbans expert stated, “I used to be with Ranveer sir throughout the shoot. I used to tie, untie and again tie the turban. There was no instance of smoking that occurred during that time. He never used any kind of substance when he was wearing a turban. The visuals circulating on the internet are AI visuals. I was there on the set, and I know what style of turban I tied. The turban in the AI visuals is totally different. Some people have created notorious things with AI.”
He also revealed, “I used to be on the shoot with Ranveer sir so that whenever he feels uncomfortable, I could untie the turban and then tie it again for the shot. I never put a readymade turban on his head. I tied it every single time.”

When asked how the project reached him, he stated, “I had done a Hollywood film with Anupam Kher where I tied a turban to the actor playing his son. Everyone liked my work of tying a turban. Two years later, I got a call for Dhurandhar. They told me that there will be a trial. When I tied a turban on Ranveer Singh, they liked it. I felt proud that I tied a turban on such a famous artist.”
He added, “I got this film through a production company in Amritsar with whom I had worked previously.” Singh stated that Ranveer loved his work and explained that it took him 15 minutes to tie the turban.
He then revealed that he didn’t know how to tie the Baloch turban.
“I wasn’t aware of it. I was aware of the Hindu and Marwari turbans. It was a challenge for me. The production shared some pictures with me. I did research and saw some videos of it. I got a 16 meter cloth and tied a turban on my head. I kept trying for one week. Then I tried it on my brother’s and wife’s heads. I was getting different head samples, so I wanted to get creative. I clicked some pictures and shared them with the director. He liked it and praised me. He told me to be prepared for tying both types of turbans, Sikh and Balochi. It used to take me 17-18 minutes to tie a Balochi turban,” said the turban expert.
