Sangeeta Ahir, producer of Kalinga, informed News9 about the upcoming project and said, “Kalinga is a very prestigious project and we have six to seven hours of content that has been digitized and colour graded. We are planning to edit it and present it in an episodic form because the story about Justice Kalinga and his seven sons is truly extraordinary.’’
She also added, “There is Amjad Khan after Sholay, the kind of look and performance he delivered in Kalinga is something I have never seen again. I’m very excited, but I also want to give this project the very best I can. It’s much like Mughal-e-Azam in its scale and emotion. It just needs to be treated with utmost care in terms of DI and post-production.’’
Sangeeta Ahir further said, “Once it is done, we will plan its release, and it has to be like a festival for everyone in the film industry. I think the entire film fraternity is waiting to see this content from Dilip Saab, his first and last directorial debut.’’
Sangeeta Ahir praises Dilip Kumar
She concluded while praising the veteran actor and said, “Dilip Saab was truly one of a kind, and I learned so much from him. He always said, ‘I never sold my talent.’ Dilip Saab and Saira Ji have been like parents, not just to someone like me, who is building a career in filmmaking even today, but to so many others. Be it Subhash Ghai, Rekha ji, and many others, he has been a godfather to them all. So many people have learned from him. So I must make sure Kalinga reaches the audience.”
The muhurat of Kalinga took place in 1991, with music director Naushad giving the muhurat clap. The film starred Dilip Kumar, Raj Babbar, Shilpa Shirodkar, Jackie Shroff, Raj Kiran, and Amjad Khan
The film ran into trouble after there was a dispute between Dilip Kumar and producer Sudhakar Bokade. It was more than 90 percent complete. Now, Sangeeta Ahir plans to turn it into a web series that will be streamed on OTT.
