Adrija Roy Update: For actors, looking presentable is naturally an important part of their professional life. With cameras, public appearances and constant media attention being part of the job, maintaining a certain level of grooming often becomes a routine. Adrija Roy, who is currently seen as Raahi in Anupamaa, believes that while appearance matters, it is ultimately a person’s confidence and individuality that create a lasting impression.
Talking exclusively to Filmibeat about the pressure to always look her best, Adrija says, “There is definitely a certain pressure because as actors, we are constantly in front of the camera. But I try not to let that pressure take over. I believe looking your best should also mean feeling comfortable and confident in your own skin. For me, it is about taking care of myself rather than constantly trying to meet an unrealistic standard.”
When it comes to meeting someone for the first time, Adrija feels there is much more to a person than their appearance. “Appearance can definitely catch your attention initially, but confidence, communication and overall presence are what leave a stronger impression on me. The way someone speaks, carries themselves and makes you feel during a conversation tells you a lot about them,” she says.
Adrija also believes grooming plays an important role in an actor’s professional image. “Grooming is important because it shows that you take yourself and your work seriously. But I don’t think it means you have to follow every trend. Simple things like maintaining your hair and skin, dressing appropriately and paying attention to the little details can make a big difference,” she adds.
Over the years, Adrija says her personal style has also evolved. “Earlier, I would experiment a lot because I was still figuring out what suited me. With time, I have understood what makes me feel like myself. I enjoy experimenting, but I also want my personal style to reflect my personality,” she shares.
For Adrija, the line between an on-camera appearance and personal style is quite clear. “The camera may require a certain look, but your personal style should still have a part of you in it. I think individuality is what makes a look memorable,” she says.
Talking about someone whose style and presence she admires, Adrija says, “There are so many people in the industry who carry themselves beautifully. I admire people who are confident without trying too hard and whose personality reflects in the way they present themselves.”
And if given a chance to have a relaxed dinner with any celebrity, Adrija would choose someone she could have a meaningful conversation with. “I would love to have dinner with someone whose journey I genuinely admire. I would be more curious about their experiences, the lessons they have learnt and the choices that shaped their career than simply talking about glamour,” she concludes.
