Ex-India cricketer Robin Uthappa summoned by ED in betting app-related PMLA investigation

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning on September 22 in a money laundering case linked to an alleged illegal online batting app, as per a PTI source.

The 39-year-old has been asked to record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in connection with the platform named 1xBet. The probe revolves around allegations that certain betting apps defrauded investors and evaded taxes, reportedly involving crores of rupees.

Uthappa is the third former Indian cricketer to be summoned in this case. Earlier, the ED questioned former stars Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan over the last few weeks. The agency is reportedly examining the role of high-profile figures in promoting or being associated with these platforms.
