New Delhi: Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing in court on Tuesday. Party was charged with multiple serious sexual offences and is facing five counts of rape involving two women and one count of sexual assault against a third woman.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian international made his appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court dressed in all black, standing in the dock with his arms behind his back. The alleged incidents are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, during his time with Arsenal in the Premier League.

Conditional bail granted ahead of trial
Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring granted Partey conditional bail with strict terms in place. The footballer must not contact any of the three women involved in the case. He’s also required to inform the police about any permanent address changes or international travel plans. If he intends to stay somewhere other than his listed address for more than 14 days that too must be reported to authorities.
Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, reiterated that her client “denies all the charges” and is looking forward to clearing his name in court. His next scheduled appearance is at the Old Bailey on September 2.
Police investigation began in 2022
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that they opened the investigation back in February 2022 after receiving the first report of rape. It was only last month on July 4 that Partey was officially charged and just days after his contract ended with the Gunners.
During his time at Arsenal, Partey made 35 Premier League appearances last season and joined the club in 2020 from Atletico Madrid in a transfer worth around £45 million. Prior to that, he spent several years with the Spanish side including loan spells at Mallorca and Leganes.
Expected move to Villarreal amid legal trouble
Partey is now a free agent and is reportedly set to sign a short-term deal with Villarreal in Spain with the potential for an extension. While the football world watches where he might go next professionally, all eyes will also be on his legal battle in the months ahead.
