Esha Singh Clinches Silver, Manu Bhaker Finishes Sixth at ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires

India’s shooting contingent kicked off their ISSF World Cup 2025 campaign with a podium finish as Esha Singh secured the silver medal in the women’s 25m pistol event in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The 20-year-old shooter showcased composure and precision to claim her spot on the podium, while seasoned Olympian Manu Bhaker settled for sixth place in a high-pressure final on Saturday.

China’s Yujie Sun, also making her debut at the senior level, emerged victorious with a dominant performance, taking home the gold in her maiden appearance on the international stage.

Esha, who has been rising steadily through the ranks in recent years, put in a gritty performance throughout the final. Her medal comes as a positive sign for the Indian shooting camp, particularly in a season that holds Olympic significance. She narrowly made it into the final after finishing ninth in qualification with a score of 579 (15x). However, due to two shooters competing for RPO (Ranking Points Only), Esha advanced to the top-eight final lineup.

Manu Bhaker, a two-time Olympic participant and one of India’s most experienced pistol shooters, had shown promising form in the qualification round with a score of 585 (19x), securing third place. However, she couldn’t replicate the same rhythm in the final and had to settle for sixth place.

Simranpreet Kaur Brar, the third Indian in the fray, ended her qualification run in 13th position with a score of 576 (16x), missing out on a place in the final.

The result marks a promising start for Indian shooters in the ISSF season opener, particularly for young talents like Esha Singh, who continue to prove their mettle on the world stage. Her silver medal is expected to boost her confidence ahead of a busy international calendar, with Olympic quotas and preparations in full swing.

India will now look forward to more strong performances from its contingent in upcoming events of the ISSF World Cup series.
