EPFO records highest ever net addition of nearly 22 lakh members in June

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has recorded an all-time high net addition of 21.89 lakh members in June 2025, the highest since payroll data tracking began in April 2018, marking a 9.14 per cent rise in net payroll additions compared to May 2025 and a year-on-year growth of 13.46 per cent from June 2024, reflecting increased employment opportunities and heightened awareness of employee benefits.

New subscribers surge, youth lead payroll growth

EPFO enrolled around 10.62 lakh new subscribers in June 2025, a 12.68 per cent increase over May 2025 and a 3.61 per cent rise compared to June 2024. A majority of these new subscribers belong to the 18-25 age group, with 6.39 lakh joining during the month, accounting for over 60 per cent of total additions.

Net payroll addition for this age group reached 9.72 lakh, showing an 11.41 per cent rise from May 2025 and 12.15 per cent growth from June 2024. This trend underscores that most individuals entering the organised workforce are young, first-time job seekers.

Around 16.93 lakh members who had previously exited EPFO rejoined in June 2025, a 5.09 per cent increase from May 2025 and a 19.65 per cent year-on-year rise. These members transferred their previous accumulations instead of applying for final settlement, safeguarding their long-term financial security and social security coverage.

State and industry contributions

State-wise, the top five states and union territories contributed around 61.51 per cent of the total net payroll addition, with Maharashtra leading by adding 20.03 per cent of net payroll during the month. Other major contributors include Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana, each adding more than 5 per cent of the total net payroll.

Industry-wise, significant growth was observed in expert services, building and construction, educational institutions, electrical/mechanical/general engineering products, and commercial establishments. Expert services alone contributed 42.14 per cent of net membership, with manpower suppliers accounting for over half of this segment.

The EPFO payroll data remains provisional as employee records are continuously updated. Adjustments may occur due to late or modified ECR filings and updated exit dates for previous months. Since April 2018, EPFO has been publishing monthly payroll data, capturing first-time members, exiting members, and rejoined employees to calculate net monthly additions.
