Kolkata: EPF claim rejection seems to be a common problem that numerous EPFO subscribers face. This occurs when an individual attempts to withdraw the money (partially) from his/her EPF account. Claim rejections can be extremely irritating but often they take place due to common errors which often happen due to lack of care and oversight and can be avoided if one takes a bit of caution when filling forms or giving data to EPFO. Details which cannot be matched, KYC which are not complete or sometimes lack of employer verification are all reasons of common grounds of EPF claim rejection. It needs no reiteration to realise that these are small and easily avoidable errors.
Is UAN linked with Aadhaar
This is a step that is often missed or overlooked by EPFO subscribers. If the UAN (Universal Account Number) is linked with Aadhaar, it is a simple but vital step accomplished. Also one has to check the veracity of simple but vital data such as spelling of name, date of birth and gender are the same as they are in the EPF records. EPFO will reject any claim that carries even a slight mismatch between the data in their records and the application submitted to it.
Be careful of bank account details
Nowadays many people have several bank accounts. It can easily happen that the bank account which you furnish in your application is not seeded in your UAN. Also a careless filing of the application can also feature mistakes in the account number and even the IFSC code. This can even happen if your bank has merged with another bank. Also one must link PAN (Permanent Account Number) in order to avoid higher TDS. This can happen if the service is of less than five years.
Merge old PF accounts
Changing jobs is can be frequent nowadays. One should merge the old EPF account into the new one after changing jobs. And they should all be visible in the current UAN. Gaps in this respect can result in claims being rejected.
Approval from employer
The approval by employers is a critical issue. Many claims are rejected since employers didn’t approve KYC details. Another point to note is that EPFO states that one has to submit the signed copy of a claim form within 15 days of online filing. Else the employer can reject it.
