English Premier League | ‘Isak feels the club’s trust’: Andoni Iraola

boss Andoni Iraola believes star striker Alexander Isak’s resurgence this season stems from the immense backing he has received from the club’s management as well as fans.

The Swedish forward has put an injury-ridden 2025-26 campaign behind him to score six goals in seven English Premier League games this campaign. Iraola hopes he can add to his tally when they take on Chelsea in the EFL Cup Round Four match on Wednesday.

“I think Alex feels the trust of everyone at this club,” said the Spanish coach, when asked about his red-hot form, before adding: “Everyone believes if he moves into good positions he will score lots of goals. But I always tell him he has to help [off the ball] us so we can help give him the chances to score, and I think he has understood that necessity. I hope that he continues to keep playing at this high level.”

Meanwhile, his  faces the tough task of finding an alternate source of goals following the injury to Joao Pedro and the suspension of Cole Palmer. However, with the likes of Morgan Rogers, Danny Welbeck and Estevao, Alonso believes they have enough firepower to trouble the Reds. “For sure we can deal with it [Pedro’s injury and Palmer’s suspension]. That’s why we built a strong squad. Yes, they are important players, but sometimes you need to learn to play without them,” said Alonso.
