L2 Empuraan box office collection day 7: The impact of the controversy surrounding Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan is now reflected in its box office performance.

Though the film has been witnessing a decline in collections over the week, it saw a steeper dip on Wednesday. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, it minted Rs 5.5 crore on Wednesday, with its domestic earnings reaching Rs 84.40 crore.

L2: Empuraan had one of the biggest openings in Malayalam cinema, raking in Rs 21 crore on its first day. Over its opening weekend, the film earned more than Rs 24.35 crore. However, it began seeing a decline from Monday, when collections dropped to Rs 11.15 crore – an 18 percent decrease. On Tuesday, it further fell to Rs 8.55 crore, marking a 23 percent drop. The downward trend continued on Wednesday.

L2: Empuraan had an overall occupancy of 34.68 percent Malayalam on Wednesday, which contributed the most to its earnings. This was followed by 9.84 percent Telugu occupancy, 15.46 percent Tamil 0ccupancy and 7.71 percent Hindi occupancy.

L2: Empuraan has been marred by controversy. A certain section of the audience protested against L2: Empuraan, even calling for a ban due to its depiction of the 2002 Gujarat riots. The makers, however, abided by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) revised guidelines and introduced 24 cuts to the film, a move that has impacted its domestic box office run.

Despite the controversy, L2: Empuraan has achieved significant success globally. According to reports, the film has crossed Rs 250 crore globally. This makes L2 Empuraan the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. The film surpassed Manjummel Boys’ worldwide collection of Rs 242 crore to achieve this feat. The Mohanlal-starrer has surpassed the collection of other hit Malayalam films like 2018 (Rs 177 crore), The Goat Life (Rs 158 crore), Aavesham (Rs 156 crore), Pulimurugan (Rs 152 crore) and more.
