New Delhi: An employee took to a social platform to claim that their work from home request for a few months was not approved despite stating a family emergency. They further stated that the manager demanded additional explanation.
In the post that appeared on Reddit, the employee stated that they were working for the multinational corporation for three and a half years. Speaking of the company’s policies, the employee stated the organisation officially allows 45 paid leaves, 12 public holidays, and a hybrid model for two days in office. However, the employee’s team functioned with stricter rules. They only allowed for 27 total leaves, 12 days or 100 hours in the office, and three days in office.

The employee told netizens that they had informed the manager about a family situation involving the police. They also assured the manager continued productivity and timely submission of deliverables.
Despite the employee’s detailed message to the manager, the work from home wasn’t approved. “This request is not approved for now. Please provide additional/exact information. The reason you mentioned is not acceptable, so please avoid this as a justification going forward,” wrote the manager.
Reddit users were quick to comment on the post. They were divided on the topic. One wrote, ““Loop in your HR, add the official police report, be exact about how long you need WFH, share the details he wants, and cite the company’s official policy. Be straightforward.” Another stated that most orgamisations would think twice to give WFH for a long time to employees hired to work from office.
They asked the man to think from the employer’s shoes. “Matters like this are subjective. If you have a genuine problem, talk to them directly,” said another. They also told the employee to be specific about the duration of work from home required. They explained how the addition of more details might help their case.
