New Delhi: Tesla chief Elon Musk joined the telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump recently. Both leaders and the billionaire businessman discussed the ongoing Middle East crisis.
During their conversation, Prime Minister Modi stressed on India’s support for restoration of peace in the region. He also pointed out that Strait of Hormuz must remain open and ships are able to pass through the canal. Tensions in Middle East increased in recent times following US and Israel’s joint operation on Iran. Tehran reciprocated with missile attacks on the US and military bases and also targeting other regional countries.
Trump called PM Modi earlier this week
Trump had called PM Modi to discuss the situation in the region amid increasing concerns over food and fuel security. According to a report published in The New York Times, Musk participated in the discussion with two leaders on March 24. This was very unusual for private citizen to speak with two leaders. This also suggested reduced tensions between Trump and Musk.
Notably, Musk was part of the US administration when Donald Trump took over as the President as country’s 47th President in January last year. However, soon differences of opinion led to Musk’s exit of the Trump administration.
“India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world,” PM Modi said on X after his discussion with the US President.
Musk mostly remained silent on Middle East crisis
While Musk had mostly been silent on the conflict in West Asia on X, he responded to a post questioning why several countries remained dependent on the Strait of Hormuz for their supply chains chain across the glob , saying “We got lazy.”
