Election Commission of India: Assembly elections are going to be held in Bihar. Voters will see many major changes in this election. Now EVM will see a colorful picture and serial number of the candidate. The Election Commission has updated its guideline to change the layout of EVM ballots.
Voters will be able to identify the candidate’s face easily
A provision has been made under Rule 49B of Election Operation Rules, 1961 that pictures of candidates will now be printed colorful. These will be in place of earlier black and white or without photo versions. With this, people will be able to easily recognize their candidate. The photo allocated photo will cover three-fourths of the location. This will allow voters to see the faces more clearly. The candidate’s serial number will be marked more prominently on the ballot paper.
Earlier only the basic details of the candidate such as name, party symbol and serial number were sought. Candidates had photos or small sized black and white. In the new change, both design and print have been changed to make the ballot papers more voter-friendly and to reduce confusion at polling stations.
What did the Election Commission do?
- Pictures of candidates on EVM ballots will be colored. The candidate’s face will be on three-fourths of the picture place.
- The candidate’s serial number will be printed. The font size will be 30. It will be written in bold.
- The same font type and sufficient size will be printed in the same font type and sufficient size to make the names or NOTA of all candidates easily.
- EVM ballots will be printed on 70 GSM paper. Pink paper will be used for assembly elections.
