Two people, posing as officers of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and CBI, contacted the victim through WhatsApp video call. They showed him fake documents and threatened to arrest him and confiscate his property. Fearing legal action, the couple was forced to transfer money to accounts purported to be those of fraudsters.

Investigating officers said that the money exchange continued for about two months. Money was transferred to about 18 accounts in Maharashtra and other states through RTGS and other methods.
