Ekadashi is one of the most revered and sacred days practices in Hinduism. It is said to cleanse the soul, help detach from material desires, and guide one toward spiritual liberation.
Devotees pray to Lord Vishnu on this day and observe ‘vrat’ in order to seek peace and pave the way for liberation or ‘Moksh’ after death. In September 2025, two significant Ekadashis, Parivartini Ekadashi and Indira Ekadashi will be observed.
Ekadashi translates to the number 11 or the ‘the eleventh’ day of the Hindi calendar month. It refers to the eleventh day of a fortnight belonging to a lunar month. Hence, Ekadashi is celebrated twice a month.
According to Drik Panchang, “Devotees can choose to observe fasting without water, with only water, with only fruits, with one time latex food according to their will and body power. However it should be decided before starting the fast.”
Here are all the Ekadashi fasts that will fall in the month of September, along with the details:
Parsva Ekadashi (3 September 2025)
Parsva Ekadashi falls in the Bhadrapada month during Shukla Paksha. The Ekadashi Tithi begins at 03:53 AM on September 3rd, and ends at 04:21 AM on September 4th. Devotees observing the fast can perform Parana between 01:36 PM and 04:07 PM on September 4th. On this day, the Hari Vasara end moment is at 10:18 AM, marking an important time for concluding certain rituals.
Indira Ekadashi (17 September 2025)
Indira Ekadashi is observed in the Ashwina month during Krishna Paksha. The Ekadashi Tithi starts at 12:21 AM on September 17th, and ends the same day at 11:39 PM. The Parana time for this fast is from 06:07 AM to 08:34 AM on September 18. The Dwadashi ends at 11:24 PM, signifying the Parana time.
Significance of Ekadashi Vrat
Ekadashi is seen as a day of deep devotion and spiritually. It begins on the Ekadashi Tithi and concludes on Dwadashi Tithi, during which devotees observe a day-long fast. Devotees should wake up early, perform rituals, and offer prayers to Shri Hari Vishnu, seeking his blessings. Ekadashi fasting on both days is suggested for staunch devotees who seek for love and affection of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that observing Ekadashi with sincerity leads devotees to Vaikuntha and blesses them with moksha, freedom from the endless cycle of birth and death.
