According to belief, on this date Lord Vishnu incarnated in the form of Mohini and tricked the gods into drinking nectar. Why is Lord Vishnu the lord of Ekadashi?
According to religious texts, once while fighting with a demon named Mur, Lord Vishnu became very tired and went to a cave and slept. The demon Mur also came there chasing Lord Vishnu. Then a light emerged from Lord Vishnu’s body which transformed into a female form. That woman killed the demon Mur. When Lord Vishnu woke up from sleep, he came to know the whole story. Lord Vishnu named that woman Ekadashi and gave her a place in the dates. Since then Lord Vishnu is worshiped on Ekadashi date.
