Since is a remake of the Thai film One Day, comparisons with other films exploring memory-related conditions are inevitable. For those unversed, the story follows a woman who suffers from a rare form of temporary amnesia that lasts for just one day. Her quiet colleague, who secretly loves her, takes advantage of the situation by telling her that they are a couple so he can experience being with her for that one day.
Because the plot revolves around memory loss affecting a romantic relationship, some viewers have drawn similarities with Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara. In that film, the lead character Vaani Batra (played by Aneet Padda), is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, which leads to gradual memory loss and confusion. While the two films deal with different medical conditions, both stories explore how memory-related illnesses can deeply affect love and relationships.

In an interview with Variety India, Aamir described Ek Din as a classic love story that audiences have not seen in a long time. He also revealed that parts of the film were shot in Japan, adding that the reason behind the location would become clear once the film releases.
He mentioned that there is a scene where her character calls a day the most beautiful day of her life, while Junaid’s character replies that she will not remember it the next day. When asked if the film deals with Alzheimer’s disease like Saiyaara, Aamir responded with a laugh and clarified that Ek Din is completely different and does not revolve around that condition.
