Eid ul Fitr 2026 School Holiday Date: The holy month of Ramadan is now in its last phase and like every year, this time too the biggest question in the minds of children and parents is, when will the school holidays be? Actually, the date of Eid-ul-Fitr is decided every year on the sighting of the moon, hence there is no fixed date in advance. This time it is being speculated that the Shawwal moon can be seen in India around 6:45 pm on March 20. If this happens, Eid will be celebrated on 21 March 2026 (Saturday).
When will schools remain closed on Eid 2026?
Since Eid is a gazetted (national) holiday in India, most government offices as well as schools and colleges remain closed. According to the possible situation that is emerging at present-
- Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, West Bengal: There is every possibility of Eid holiday on March 21 (Saturday).
- Telangana and Andhra Pradesh: Holiday on either 20th or 21st March, to be decided on sighting of the moon.
- Many schools are still waiting for the official announcement, so the final decision will come out only at the last moment.

Can we get Eid 2026 holiday on March 20 also?
In some places, if Eid is declared on March 20 (Friday), then schools may remain closed on that day. However, in such cases, getting leave on March 21 will depend on whether your school runs on Saturday or not. Most schools open on Saturday (at least half a day), so the possibility of double holiday is considered less.

Right now the best thing is to wait for the official notice or message from your school. Overall, as of now, the possibility of getting Eid holiday on March 21 is high, but the option of March 20 also cannot be completely ruled out.
