The education system of UP was weak before 2017. The Yogi Sarkar modernized schools with initiatives like skilled Bharat Mission, Smart Class, PM Shri Vidyalaya and Digital Education. Now quality, innovation and environmental awareness is increasing in education.
Lucknow. The education system of Uttar Pradesh remained in a weak condition for a long time. Before 2017, there were teachers in schools, but they had neither enough training nor modern resources. Most schools had neither libraries nor facilities like sports or digital education. Children from rural areas did not even get even basic education material. The inspection of schools was also almost closed and teachers did not get the necessary means to teach. This is why both literacy rate and quality of studies were affected.
In 2017, the Yogi government started the work of improving education in mission mode after assuming power. Realizing the weaknesses, the government started schemes like ‘Known Bharat Mission’, ‘PM Shri Vidyalaya’, ‘Vidya Review Center’ and ‘Digital Studio’. They brought new direction and energy in the education system of the state. Now schools are not limited to studies, but have become centers of digital education, science, sports and environmental awareness.
Executive India Mission – Strong children’s foundation
The government aims that by 2026-27 every child can learn to read and write at the primary level. So far, 48,061 schools have been declared as ‘skilled schools’. This is completely different from the earlier situation, when the foundation of children remained weak.
Teacher Empowerment – The axis of education reform
Before 2017, teachers received very little training and technical help. Now 4.33 lakh teachers and Shikshamitras have been trained. 2.61 lakh teachers have received tablets. Apart from this, teachers have also been given maths kits, TLM, Big Books, Spelies and Teacher Diary, which has made studies in class more effective.
Smart Class and Digital Education
Earlier, the main means of education was only blackboard. Today smart classes are running in 25,790 schools. ICT labs have been created in 4,688 schools and 880 development blocks. Under the PM Shri Yojana, smart class and digital library have started in 1,129 schools. Digital studios have been built in Lucknow at a cost of ₹ 10 crore and schools are being monitored in a data based manner from the Vidya Review Center.
Supervision and innovation
The first inspection was only a formality. Now in every development block, ARP, SRG and Diet Mentors in every district do regular cooperative inspection of schools. Teacher clusters are agenda based and good teaching methods are shared in them.
PM Shri Vidyalaya and National Invention Campaign
PM Shri Vidyalayas are becoming models of modern facilities and new teaching practices. These include library, sports materials, project-based learning, smart class and digital library. Under the National Invention Campaign, 88,500 children have been given educational tour. In 2025-26, 150 meritorious students will be visited by institutions like Imri, Bark, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Science parks are also being built in all 10 mandals.
Eco Club and Green Initiative
Earlier schools did not have environmental activities. Now every school has eco clubs. 27 lakh saplings have been planted under the campaign “one tree mother’s name” campaign.
Improvement in secondary education
Earlier there was a lack of experimental education in secondary schools. Now mathematics kits, investigative boxes, TLM exhibitions, educational excursions and remedial education have been introduced. Teachers and principals are being continuously trained. SRG groups have been formed for English, mathematics and science subjects.
Sports and overall development
Earlier sports facilities were limited to only a few schools. Now every primary school is getting ₹ 5,000 and upper primary school is getting ₹ 10,000 for sports materials. Summer camps have been organized in 45,614 schools, which have given children experience in sports, art, culture and teamwork.
