New Delhi: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s blazing half-century helped India recover from an early wicket on Day 1 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The left-hander played a brilliant counter-attacking knock of 62 off 69 as India reached 98 for 2 at Lunch.
If not for Karun Nair’s wicket on the stroke of Lunch, India would have ended the first session in a much stronger position. Nair would be disappointed to be dismissed for 31 (50b) after getting well set at the crease. He was undone by a snorter of a delivery by Brydon Carse minutes before the end of the morning session.
Despite Nair’s wicket, India would happily take the score, considering they lost KL Rahul (2) inside the first hour of play after being sent into bat. Rahul, despite coming into the match in good form, played in his shell and was eventually dismissed for 2 off 26 balls.
The right-handed opener chopped on a back-of-a-length delivery onto his stumps as Chris Woakes gave the home side a perfect start.
