East Bengal Begin ISL Title Defence With Dominant 4-0 Win Over Churchill Brothers

New Delhi: Defending champions East Bengal FC began their Indian Super League title defence in impressive fashion, registering a commanding 4-0 victory over Churchill Brothers on Sunday.

Dani Ramirez, Edmund Lalrindika and substitute Bipin Singh, who scored twice, found the net to give Antonio Habas’ side a perfect start to their campaign.

East Bengal needed just two minutes to take the lead, with Ramirez producing a stunning free-kick from outside the penalty area. The midfielder unleashed a curling left-footed effort that sailed into the top-left corner, leaving Churchill Brothers goalkeeper Sayad Kadir with little chance.

Churchill Brothers responded positively and created several opportunities to restore parity. The hosts threatened the East Bengal defence on multiple occasions and came close to scoring, even striking the woodwork. However, East Bengal remained organised at the back to protect their early advantage.

The visitors doubled their lead towards the end of the first half through a well-executed attacking move. David Hmar held possession on the left flank before delivering a pass into the path of Edmund Lalrindika, who timed his run well and finished past Kadir.

Churchill Brothers attempted to reduce the deficit after the break, but struggled to make their chances count in the final third. East Bengal, meanwhile, maintained their composure and managed the game effectively with a two-goal cushion.

Habas’ decision to introduce Bipin Singh in the second half proved decisive. The winger made an immediate impact, curling a superb effort into the top corner in the 85th minute to extend East Bengal’s lead.

Bipin struck again five minutes later, completing his brace and putting the finishing touch on a comprehensive victory.

The result gives East Bengal an encouraging start to their title defence and underlines their attacking strength. Churchill Brothers, who began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Mumbai City FC, will aim to recover when they face Punjab FC next week.
